Burke Tight End Chris Hickman commits to the Big Red

Nebraska picked up a key in-state commitment from 4-star  tight-end Chris Hickman when he announced via social media on Saturday that he was committing to Nebraska.

“First off I’d like to thank god, my family, friends, teachers & coaches for all their support,” Hickman posted on Twitter. A”fter taking my time to decide what school that I feel is the best fit for me, I would like to announce I am committing to the University of Nebraska.”

The Omaha Burke standout chose the Huskers over several other big-time schools such as LSU, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Iowa, and Oregon. At 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, the tight-end had 14 division one offers thanks to his massive upside at the next level. The Huskers coaching staff loved Hickman’s frame and athleticism and knew he was a must get for their new scheme but were trailing behind the Hawkeye’s for a long time.

Nebraska’s linebackers coach Barrett Ruud has been in charge of recruiting in-state players and did a terrific job in making up lost ground with Hickman and his teammate Nick Henrich who have both committed to the Huskers over the last three months. It wasn’t long ago that both Hickman and Henrich were considered all but locks to leave the state for college.

The second biggest storyline with Hickman’s commitment is that with his pledge, the Huskers have shut down recruiting in the state of Nebraska and secured the top talent within its borders. The Huskers have locked up the 1-5 ranked players in the state who are all ranked 3-stars and above. They have commitments from 4-stars  Nick Henrich (LB) and Chris Hickman (TE) along with 3-stars Garrett Nelson (DE), Garrett Snodgrass (ATH), and Ethan Piper (DL).
