Barrett Ruud named Huskers 10th Assistant Coach

In a move that many saw coming a mile away, the Cornhuskers announced the hiring of Barrett Ruud as their 10th full-time assistant coach today. Today was the first day that FBS programs around the country could hire a 10th full-time coach and Frost elevated Ruud after he spent the last month digging into the Husker roster and recruiting.

Ruud served on Frost’s UCF staff the past two seasons as a defensive quality control administrator and was pivotal in landing talented juco linebacker transfer Will Honas.

The all-time leading tackler at Nebraska, Ruud will coach the inside linebackers in the Huskers 3-4 defense. He holds a vast amount of knowledge about the linebacker position from his time playing it. He leads the Huskers with 432 all-time tackles in his Husker career in addition to being named a freshman All-American, three-time All-Big 12 member, and a third team All-American in 2004.

Following his time at Nebraska, Ruud was a second-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 36th overall pick. Ruud spent eight seasons in the NFL, recording 658 tackles with six sacks, seven interceptions and six forced fumbles for Tampa Bay, Tennessee, New Orleans, and Houston.

In addition to Ruud’s joining the staff as a full-time assistant coach, Nebraska also announced the following members of its football staff today.
