The Big Red stole a terrific recruit out of Alabama on signing day with this morning’s commitment from 3-star defensive back Cam Taylor. A versatile defender, Taylor’s speed and frame allow him to play several different positions in the Blackshirt secondary.
In what would be a whirlwind recruitment, the Huskers fended off a late charge from in-state Auburn to secure Cam’s commitment this morning. Taylor admitted that Auburn has been his dream school but fading interest allowed Husker staff’s relentless pursuit to pay paid dividends for the Big Red.
“Can’t really explain the feeling,” Taylor told AL.com about his interest in Auburn this week. “Honestly, if they offer, I would have to make a decision. If they don’t, I would still have to make a decision.”
One of the biggest strengths that Taylor brings to Nebraska is his love for lowering his shoulder and hitting a ball-carrier. His physical brand of play could suit the Huskers at both safety and outside linebacker as they look to replace several veterans over the next two seasons.
“I’m a more physical guy than an offensive quarterback should be. I feel I could let go and have fun and do what I want on defense,” Taylor said. “Come down and hit as hard as I want to … you could let loose a little more,” he told Landof10.
Taylor is a big addition to the Huskers 2018 class and it’s well suited for the style of play defensive coordinator Erik Chinander wants to play next season. Look for Taylor’s swagger and edge to make an impact early on in his career at Nebraska.
