St. Thomas Aquinas safety Jayden Russell drops by Lincoln for the Spring Game
This weekend the Huskers hosted 2019 safety prospect Jayden Russell out of Kansas City for a quick visit to Lincoln during the spring game. The talented safety was back for his second visit in the last 6-months after visiting Lincoln last November.
While he plays defense, one of the most interesting impressions the new Cornhusker staff made with Jayden Russell came on the offensive side of the ball. He noted how versatile the Huskers new offensive scheme is and the challenges it poses for a defense.
“As a defensive guy it would be a headache trying to stop the offense on game day,” Russell said.
Defensively, Russell like what he saw out of Erik Chinander’s revamped 3-4 defense. From the big guys in the trenches to the players in the secondary, the aggression he saw from the new defense stood out during the game.
“Coach showed a lot of aggression, the defensive line was getting some push (and) everyone was flying to the ball”
With a new staff in place, Russell was buying what the Husker coaches were selling during the spring game about the turnaround that is happening in Lincoln and rated his visit to Lincoln an “8”.
“I talked to coach Held. He believes in this program and I think that they will change the program”.
While the trip to Lincoln was a short one for Jayden Russell, look for the Huskers to continue their courtship as they focus on local midwest recruits such as Russell to help rebuild the Cornhusker program.
